Official RulesTHE COMPETITIONSponsored by KPMG, the Case Competition is organized by School of management, Xiamen University with the support of MBA center and college professors. This Case Competition is a very important educational event which offer students the opportunity to show their leadership, analytical mind and communication skills in written and oral form. The Competition also serves as an excellent forum for interaction among students from different majors.ELIGIBILITYThe competition is open to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from Xiamen University . Each team must have exactly 4 members, but they do not have to be from the same year or the same major. (Each team is required to have no more than 1 postgraduate student.)THE TEAMSThe student alternate may only participate in the Competition in extenuating circumstances and with the approval of the organizers.To participate in the Competition, a team must register all of their members by 11:59pm March 21, 2009 by completing the official entry form available at School of management.After this deadline, no changes to the team members may be made for the Online Round 1. If a team is selected for the Round 2 held in Auditorium in Zhangzhou Campus on April 11 and J2-201 in Xiamen Campus on April 12, each team must use Microsoft PowerPoint in their presentation and prepare for the Q&A sessions.If a team is selected for the Championship Round 3 held in Keli Building(克立楼) on April 19, and each team also must use Microsoft PowerPoint in their presentation and prepare for the Q&A sessions.THE CASESThe cases used in the Competition will, to the best of the Organizers knowledge, be unpublished and untested. The cases supplied during this competition are written fully in English.Case Competition Online Round 1There are 3 rounds of competition. The first round, also known as the Online round, will be managed through the competition website. Teams competing in this Round are required to attend a briefing session prior to the commencement of the Round (time and date to be announced later). At this session, the competition rules and schedule will be outlined and expectations of the teams will be discussed. All teams who have successfully registered before the deadline can participate. When the competition begins on March 23, team members may log on to the case competition website and download the Round 1 case and other materials. At the conclusion of Round 1, there will be 6 top teams in Xiamen Campus and other 6 top teams in Zhangzhou Campus which can gain the access to the Round2The solution to the case proposed by your team is to be put in a PowerPoint presentation.Presentations may be submitted any time before the deadline of 10:00 PM March 29, 2009, however once presentations have been submitted, they are final. Any entries received after this deadline will not be accepted. No email entries will be accepted.Case Competition Round 2Participants will be given 6 days to prepare their analysis and recommendations for their presentation from April 5. Presentation of analysis Each team will receive approximately 15 minutes for the presentation of their case material (maximum 20 slides) to the judges and audience. The presentation order will be determined by random selection and all team members must present. Warnings will be given to each team at the 5 minute and 1 minute marks. Teams will be requested to stop presenting at exactly 15 minutes. Following each presentation, the judges will have up to 5 minutes to question the team on their understanding of the case. The judges will evaluate the team solely on their presentation and on their knowledge of the issues. Each team must use Microsoft PowerPoint in their presentation. Copies of each teams slides will be given to the judging panel. Teams are not permitted to pass on any extra material to the judging panel. No team will be allowed to view another teams presentation prior to their own presentation; however teams are welcomed to watch other teams after they have presented themselves. Questions may be directed to either the team as a whole or any individual member. Those members may then pass any question to another team member who is best prepared to answer.At the end of the Round 2, there will be 6 top teams which can have access to the Championship Round 3.PowerPoint Case Presentations All PowerPoint presentations can be done using Chinese. The presentation must have a maximum of 20 slides (including cover page, contents, etc) The file size, for ease of uploading and also demonstration of PowerPoint technique, should be LESS THAN 10 MB in size.Case Competition Championship Round 3Participants will be given a new case to prepare their analysis in a separated room within several hours. No mobile phone, Internet and books are available during this period. Every team should submit a PowerPoint before the deadline.
