SYLLABUSSCHOOL: SCHOOL OF PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERINGMAJOR: OIL & GAS STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERINGSTUDENT NAME: STUDENT NUMBER: ENTRY DATE: Course Title: Engineering Cognition and PracticeCredit:1.0Duration: 1st Term 2013-2014Overview:This subject is the first course for engineering quality-oriented education in college, and it is a course which combines theory with practice as well. The aims of this subject are making students perceive the industrial process, motivating students interest in engineering, providing background knowledge of engineering and cultivating students engineering quality. This subject is composed of seven sections, including overview of mechanical structure, machinery manufacturing, electronic process, engineering control, engineering management, petroleum engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be acquainted with and master the following contents:1. Overview of mechanical structure2. Overview of machinery manufacturing3. Overview of electronic process4. Overview of engineering control5. Overview of engineering project management 6. Overview of petroleum engineering7. Innovation and entrepreneurshipAssessment: The first half of the semester is about theory learning, and the second half of the semester is practical operation, including making small- sized lights and designing simple circuits in the internship workshop built in the third phrase of school construction. Assessment of this course is made up of online exam and evaluation about small-sized simple products. Class performance and assignments (20%), mid-term exam (30%), and final exam (50%) (Answering theoretical questions online).Prescribed texts:Engineering Cognition and Practice, XIAO Xiaohua, LAI Tianhua, Petroleum Industry Press.Course Title: Fundamentals of Computer Science Credit:1.5Duration: 1st Term 2013-2014Overview: This subject focuses on improving students computer mind with ensuring students application capabilities. This subject consists of 8 chapters, including introduction, fundamentals of computer hardware, fundamentals of computer software, fundamentals of algorithm, fundamentals of program design, basis of database, computer network foundation and computer security. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be acquainted with and master the following contents and solve the related exercises. Students are also expected to be equipped with the knowledge and ability to understand and settle some practical problems in life and industry.1. History of computer, computational model, computer system, computer culture and mind, application and prospects of computer2. Fundamentals of computer hardware3. Fundamentals of computer software4. Fundamentals of algorithm5. Fundamentals of program design6. Basis of database7. Computer network foundation8. Computer information security Assessment:4-5 assignments (written assignments and experiments on computer), class performance and assignment achievements (15%) and 100-minute final exam (85%).Prescribed Texts: Fundamentals of Computer Science (3rd Edition), SUN Shuxia and CHEN Lichao (Editor-in-chief), ZHANG Weili, LIU Zhonghui and XIAO Yangchun (Associate editors), Higher Education Press. Course Title: Visual Basic Programming Credit:3.5Duration: 2nd Term 2013-2014Overview:This subject introduces syntax of Visual Basic, code and basic knowledge of programming. It aims at providing a good training for students in terms of program design. This course consists of 10 chapters, including overview of VB, basic knowledge of VB language, fundamentals of VB program design, program design of control structure, array, process, graphic design of document, design of staple interface, function of database, etc. Besides, based on Visual Basic 6.0, this course introduces application methods of VB integrated development environment and arranges corresponding experiments on computer in line with textbook contents. Experiments on computer consists of 12 chapters: VB program development environment, VB program language base, VB program design base, program design of control structure, array, document, images and graphics, design of staple interface, function application of database, program design of comprehensive exercises, program debug and error handling. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be acquainted with and master the following contents.
