-Jane Austen,Author,Jane Austen (17751817) one of the most widely read writers in English literature her realism and biting social commentary cementing her historical importance among scholars and critics,education,educated primarily by her father and older brothers as well as through her own reading In 1783, sent to Oxford to be educated from 1785 to 1786, left for boarding school.,Her artistic apprenticeship lasted from her teenage years until she was about 35 years old in 1810. From 1811 until 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice(1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818, and began a third, which was eventually titled Sanditon, but died before completing it.,Austens works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century realism.Her plots, though fundamentally comic,highlight the dependence of women on marriage to secure social standing and economic security.,Pride and Prejudice,first titled First Impressions first published in 1813 one of the most popular novels in English literature follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th-century England,Theme-Pride and Prejudice,The story describes how the pride and prejudices of the main characters change throughout the novel, focusing on those of Elizabeth Bennet. Pride is the character flaw that causes Elizabeth Bennet to dislike Fitzwilliam Darcy upon their first meeting. Her prejudice against Darcy came from his snobbery. Characters besides Darcy and Eliza are also accused of having too much pride,Mr. Darcys first declaration of love for Elizabeth: You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you despite your awful family and your socially inferior position. There are many obstacles on the road to love in Pride and Prejudice. Theres something about love that enables it to overcome all the pride and prejudice that society throws in its way.,Theme-Love and marriage,Summary,Pride and Prejudice contains one of the most cherished love stories in English literature: the courtship between Darcy and Elizabeth. As in any good love story, the lovers must elude and overcome numerous stumbling blocks, beginning with the tensions caused by the lovers own personal qualities.,
