And perhaps the most famous was probably Audrey Hepburn, the famous film star, but UNICEF was the first United Nations agency to appoint ambassadors”,The script:,UNICEF China said it enlisted Yang Lans support for public advocacy on key childrens rights issues such as support for children of migrant workers, abandoned children, ending discrimination against children affected by HIV/AIDS and inclusion of children with disabilities. I think for the very well known persons and celebrities the most precious commodity they can give to the cause of children is their time. Lan will visit UNICEF projects in the most remote rural communities in China, support awareness raising programs and appear at key public events,Introduction of UNICEF,UNICEF was founded in 1946 for the purpose of providing emergency assistance to children suffering from the Second World War. Since 1950, the Fund has involved itself in solving childrens problems in the developing countries such as malnutrition, illness and education, and its business scope has expanded to childrens survival, development and protection, with the protection of girls as its top priority.,Introduction of UNICEF,Chinas Relations with UNICEF,China began its cooperation with the Fund in 1979 and has been the member of its Executive Board since 1980. Mr. Carol Bellamy (from the United States), Executive Director of the Fund, visited China many times. The Fund provided USD285.66 million of assistance to China between 1990 and 1998 and carried out 150 projects.,Chinas Relations with UNICEF,Since 1979, China has contributed USD 11.8 million and RMB 2.1 million to the Fund. In 1998, Chinas donation amounted to USD1.1 million and RMB 300,000. In March 1991, former Premier Li Peng, on behalf of the Chinese government, signed the World Declaration on the Survival, Protection and Development of the Children and the Plan of Action which were adopted by the World Summit for Children.,Chinas Relations with UNICEF,The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the All-China Womens Federation are responsible for matters relating to the Fund. The Fund set up its office in Beijing in 1981.
