Intelligent and forthright (adj.直率的), he too has a tendency to judge too hastily and harshly, and his high birth and wealth make him overly proud and overly conscious of his social status Indeed, his haughtiness (n.傲慢) makes him initially bungle (v.把搞糟) his courtship (n.求爱). When he proposes to her, for instance, he dwell (vi.细想) more on how unsuitable a match she is than on her charms, beauty, or anything else complimentary. Her rejection of his advances builds a kind of humility (n.谦卑) in him.,Analysis of Major Characters,7,Elizabeth:The second daughter in the Bennet family, and the most intelligent and quick-witted (adj.机智灵敏的), Elizabeth is the protagonist (n.主角) of Pride and Prejudice and one of the most well-known female characters in English literature. Her honesty, virtue, and lively wit enable her to rise above the nonsense and bad behavior that pervade (vt.遍及;弥漫) her class-bound and often spiteful (adj.恶意的) society. Nevertheless, her sharp tongue and tendency to make hasty judgments often lead her astray (adj.误入歧途的).,Analysis of Major Characters,8,Classical Lines,9,Elizabeth: Do you think anything might tempt(诱惑)me to accept the man who has ruined the happiness of a most beloved sister? Do you deny that you separated a young couple who loved each other, exposing your friend to censure (谴责)for caprice(善变)and my sister to derision(嘲弄)for disappointed hopes, involving them both in acute(严重的)misery(痛苦)?,一个毁我最亲爱的姐姐幸福的人,怎么会打动我的心去爱他呢?你能否认你拆散了一对相爱的恋人,让你的朋友被大家指责为朝三暮四,让我的姐姐被大家嘲笑为奢望空想,你叫他们俩受尽了痛苦?,Classical Lines,10,Personally,I admire Dacy because he could express his love courageously though he was rejected by Elizabeth. In Elizabeths eyes.Darcy was such a rich man that he always felt haughty.Realizing that,Darcy began to get rid of those bad habits. Eventually,Darcys perfect behavior removed Elizabeths prejudice.Of course, they married and led a wonderful life.,As far as Im concerned, there is no doubt that marriage should be based on love and we must be subject to moral character in the face of love as well.Im firmly convinced that a marriage without love is imperfect, money determines not everything. Therefore,I hope that everyone can gain a happy marriage.,Our Opinions,11,Thank you for watching,
