This paper gives an analysis to the phenomenon and puts forward that middle school students should learn to improve positive transfer by using the similarity of language and overcome negative transfer to improve language acquisition. In middle school English teaching, the use of mother- tongue teaching properly is of great help for students. Based on understanding the learning habit and the way of thinking, teachers could blend the mother tongue teaching means in process of middle school English teaching, as far as possible to avoid its negative influence and give full play to its positive effect, improve their teaching level and teaching effects. This paper mainly states the impact of the mother tongue on middle school English learning and puts forward measures on using native language, and provide references for the vast number of middle school students. -范文最新推荐-3 / 7Generally, the study of language transfer has experienced three periods: behaviorist, mentalist and cognitive period. In the 1950s, transfer in behaviorist accounts was seen as an impediment. In the late 1960s, under the influence of Chomsky’s universal grammar, its importance waned while learner’s errors were seen not as evidence of language transfer but rather of “ the creative construction process.” Some researchers virtually denied the existence of language transfer. From the 1970s, a more balanced perspective has emerged in which the role of transfer is acknowledged. Mothers’ tongue’s transfer in English language teaching has been emphasized and studied since then. But there are two distinctive opinions. Some linguist researchers hold that there is unnecessary to use mother tongue in English language teaching in order to reduce the errors that caused by mother tongue negative transfer; while others argue that using mother tongue in English teaching is helpful to learners’ English mastering. During the last few years, the theories of contrastive analysis and errors analysis have been paid great attention by the linguistic circle, and are applied to the study of English teaching and learning. People begin to realized that it is necessary to have a good understanding of the characteristics of the mother tongue, especially in comparison with those of the foreign language, and to know well how they differentiate from each other. The English and Chinese languages belong to Sino-Tibetan and Indo-European language families respectively. Although they share some similarities, many differences exist between these two.The development of China in recent years requires higher qualities of people, among which the mastering of foreign language is one of the most important. Only when we master one foreign language and even several foreign languages can we make us more widely participate in the international pision of labor and cooperation. On one hand, there are many similarities between Chinese and English in grammar and pragmatics which give Chinese learners a lot of help in English learning. On the other hand, there are also many differences between the two. So how to make full use of the positive transfer and how to avoid the negative transfer of native language during the English learning is an important problem. Through detailed description of the impact of positive transfer and negative transfer, this paper mainly put forward the possible suggestions for the promotion of the positive influence and the prevention of negative influence of Chinese transfer on English learning, which will benefit to the learner’s English study.
