实训作业六 断桥残雪宝石山保俶塔 导游词 (郑倩倩)Broken BridgeFrom the city side, the Solitary Hill is reached by the Bai Causeway, a one kilometer-long embankment lined on both sides by plum trees and weeping willows, planted at regular intervals. At first, this causeway was named Baishao Causeway, but the name of it was changed into Bai Causeway in order to commemorate the most famous poet governor Bai Juyi in the Tang Dynasty. That is to say, the name of this causeway was named after Bai Juyi.Besides there is a famous bridge at the west end of this causeway, named Broken Bridge. I think, almost all the Chinese know this bridge, though its so ordinary as you see. But why? Well, to tell you the truth, because all Chinese know a folktale of “The White Snake Lady”. It was at this bridge that the White Snake Lady met her future husband by the name of Xu Xian. They got married and lived very happy. Actually, the White Snake Lady was a white snake but a kindly white snake. She always helps the poor with her extraordinary powers. But later they were separated by a malicious monk named Fa Hai, because he thought it improper for a human to marry a creature. So the monk detained the husband in the temple on an island in the Yangtze River. Later, the White Snake Lady went to rescue her husband, but the monk wanted to stop she, therefore they were involved in a heated fight. At the same time, Xu Xian, the husband escaped from temple with help of a monk, on the other hand, Fa Hai was busy fighting with the White Snake Lady and he had no time to attend Xu Xian. However Xu Xian didnt know where his wife was, so he came back to Hangzhou, trying to find his wife. Three days later, the White Snake Lady also came to Hangzhou to find her husband. At last they met again at the Broken Bridge. From then on, the bridge has been considered as one of the three “Bridge of Love” in Hangzhou. So, its known all over the nation. Precious Stone Hill The Precious Stone Hill is over 200 meters in height. Its scenic feature is the huge boulders scattered along its ridge. Unlike the lime stones to be found in most of the surrounding hills, these boulders are rhyolite and tuff rocks. They look purple red or grey and shine dazzlingly bright in the sun like real jasper. Hence the name, the Precious Stone Hill. At the southern foot of the Precious Stone Hill can be found a huge boulder, which is believed to be where the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC) had his boat moored. The West Lake at that time was a bay connected with the Qiantang River. On his way of pilgrimage to King Yu the Great in Shaoxing, Emperor Qin was stopped here because of a heavy storm. He had his boat moored on the rock, which has been thereafter called “Emperor Qins Mooring Stone”. In Northern Song Dynasty, Monk Si Jing carved the rock into a 3.3-meter-high bust of the Buddha which aroused the interest from the Hangzhou citizens and a temple was built there. Baochu PagodaIt was first built in 968AD during Five Dynasties. It was so named to bless Qian Hongchu, the last king of the Wuyue Kingdom with Hangzhou as its capital, over 1000years ago. At that time in north China, the Northern Song Dynasty was established by means of war. But, meanwhile, in the south China, there were ten small kingdoms. The new emperor wanted to unite the whole nation, but didnt want to resort to weapons again. So he invited the kings of the ten kingdoms into the capital for discussing. But in this case, all the members of the Wuyue kingdom became worried about their king as well as their kingdom. They didnt know if he went or not. At last, the king decided to go to the capital in order to prevent his kingdom from war. In fact, they were all very anxious. Just then, someone suggested that a pagoda being built on the north the lake in hope of blessing of their king. Ant last, their king returned home safe and sound. Therefore they named this pagoda “Baochu Pagoda”. “Bao” means protect, and “chu” is the name of the king. Of course, in this way, the emperor of the North Song succeeded in unifying the whole nation peacefully. At the beginning, the pagoda had 9 stories, but now as you see, there are only 7stories. The present pagoda we can see was rebuilt in 1933, its a brick and stone structure with a height of 45.3 m. well, you see, its very beautiful and slim.
