Unit 6 How long have you been collecting shell?Dear Professors,Glad to see you! Im Zhou Qiuxiang, from Hunan University of Technology. Its my honor to have this chance to share my lecture with you. Unit 6, Book IV, the topic is “How long have you been collecting shells?”, which is the lesson I choose for the special time. The main task can be classified into three parts, which are analysis of the teaching material, teaching methods and teaching process. Part1. Analysis of the teaching material 1.1 Status and FunctionUnit 6, Book IV, the topic is “How long have you been collecting shells?”, It is talking about “how long have you been doing things”, and review general past tense and present progressive tense, learn to use The Present Perfect Progressive, let students learn to talk about and share ones own hobby and collections. The content of the lesson is related closely to students actual life, apt to cause students to use simple English to communicate and exchange the message. In activities, students exchange view of ones own hobby and collection description, which promotes the emotion communication between students and teachers. Mainly, the content of Section A: review general past tense and present progressive tense, study The Present Perfect Progressive and its basic patterns. E.g. How long have you been skating? Ive been skating for five hours. etc. The teaching material has been arranged from listening, speaking, reading and writing. I will deal with these activities flexibly, of which some activities will be changed or combined, for instance: 1c, 2c is similar to 4s pairwork, I will combine 1c and 2c into a interview.1.2 Teaching goalAccording to the concrete description about the total goal of “course standard of English”, combined the teaching material in Unit 6, I divide the goal into knowledge objectives, ability objectives and moral objectives.1) Knowledge objectives: Word: Learn to grasp vocabulary: collect, marathon, skate, stamp, shell, globe, monster, particularly, run out of, be interested in, etc. Function: Talking about “how long have you been doing”. Structure: The present perfect progressive, review the general past tense and present progressive tense. Target language: How long have you been skating? /Ive been skating since nine oclock. /When did you start skating? /I started skating at nine oclock. /Students are skating at the Hilltop School.2) Ability objectives: Listening: Can discern the intonation of the different type, and can change and judge the change of the meaning of sentences according to the intonation. Can understand the question in the activity, make correct answers. Speaking: Can make simple communication in the task, for instance, the role playing, investigating etc.Reading: Can read the lessons correctly. Can consult the reference book and prepare for the task. Writing: Can write out word and sentence pattern they learnt this unit, can use simple sentence to show ones own hobby.3) Moral objectives: Try to express the material of objects in life. Make use of the chance to use the pattern in the text to exchange their hobby or other views, which can improve not only their spoken English but their friendship. Cultivate their ability to discover, analyze and solve practical problems. 1.3 Key points and difficult pointsKey points:1) The new words, phrases and patterns. 2) Be able to use the pattern in the text to show their hobby fluently.Difficult points:1) The concept and meaning of The Present perfect progressive tense. 2) Distinguish Past tense, Present Progressive tense and Present perfect progressive tense.3) Time adverbial clause.Part 2 Teaching method2.1 The teaching method is used:1) Task-based Language Teaching.2) Scene communication teaching method.3) Role playing activities.4) Group-group discussion.5) Teacher-student interaction.2.2 Teaching means: multi-media computer, teaching cards and tape recorder.Part 3 Teaching processStep 1 Leading inAsk one of the students the question: when did you study English? Help the student answer: I studied English in 2007. In this unit were going to talk about how long weve been doing things. Then ask: how long have you been studying English? Help him to answer: I have been studying English since 2007./I have been studying English for two years .Get Ss to repeat .Repeat the activity with other students.Step 2 Pre-task1) BrainstormShow what I like doing by using the multimedia, then ask the students:What do I like to do? What am I doing? /What did I do just now?When did I do sth? / Did I like doing sth?Then get Ss to talk something they like to do so that they can review usage of the past tense learnt before. Record their mark according their dialogue.2) PresentationAsk a student to read the three questions, and answer the questions as example like this: I started class at 9:00.I slept for ten hours. I have been skating for five hours/ I have been skating since five years ago.Ask the class each question a
