So is my older sister, Sue.45But here at school Im so tall that some kids call me Too-Tall Paul!67When Im in line, I feel so dumb. I stick out like a big sore thumb.10I do not fit well in my chair. I hate it when kids point and stare.11In class there is another Paul, and some kids call him Too-Small Paul. He cannot reach his shelf or hooks. He has to stand up on his books!13No one plays with Paul in gym. No one throws the ball to him.Kids dont pick him for their side. He hangs his head and wants to hide.15It hurts us when they call us names and when we cannot play their games. The kids are smart, so they should know you cannot choose how big you grow.16Most days I wish I were not tall. I wish that I were small, like Paul.18So it is funny when I see Paul wants to be as tall as me.19Sometimes its good to be so tall. It helps when I play basketball.20Sometimes its good to be so small. Paul twists and turns, while I just fall.222324Now were friends. I play with Paul. I do not care that he is small. Paul does not seem to care at all that I am very, very tall.25We laugh a lot. We goof and grin. We are good pals, so we both win. I help Paul. He helps me, too. There is not much we cannot do.We give a magic show one day. The kids all clap. They yell, “Hooray!”29Now they dont call me Too-Tall Paul. And no one says that Paul is small. These days, in class and in the halls, kids call us The Amazing Pauls!3031Phonic Guidelines Use the following guidelines to help your child read the words in Too-Tall Paul, Too-Small Paul.Short Vowels When two consonants surround a vowel, the sound of the vowel is usually short.
