This paper applies the synthetically study approach mainly related to historical comparison and parallel comparison. The author uses it to carry on an overall, deep study to landscaping style and landscaping elements of Chinese classical garden arts and Western classical garden arts, which laid particular emphasis on the landscaping general elements, such as style, structure, aesthetics, technique; and the comparison among landscaping specific elements, such as plant, architecture, water and mountain stone, etc. This paper discusses the differences between Chinese classical garden arts and Western classical garden arts from various aspects in order to have a deeper understanding of Chinese and Western classical garden arts and find a new way to discover and understand the differences between Chinese and Western culture. IntroductionArt and culture are inseparable. Each nationals special culture mode comes out of every part of the nation by all means, especially in art. They use their own way to create the things in life. The classical garden arts is a very important branch of art, and a kind of manifestation of culture, its under the influence and restrict of local culture. National culture influences and restricts the development and expression of classical garden arts. Classical garden arts contain and reflect the social culture. Classical garden arts are the nonperson communication of information. Garden art actually is the organic combination of the elements, (mountain stones, water, plant, architecture, etc.) according to different kinds of functional and aesthetic needs. Garden art is one of the most direct and closest ways to express the relationship between nature and human beings by the way of the material means and spiritual creativity. According to the differences in the historical background, traditional customs and some other culture factors, the classical garden art can be divided into two main categories-western classical garden art and eastern classical garden art. They have the different styles and each one has their own advantages. The most significant representative of the western classical garden art is French and English classical garden art.2.
