Optionally, the generators can be driven secondarily or primarily depending on needs. Furthermore, solutions ensuring PTH operations are available. This requirement gains more and more importance, for instance for vessels carrying dangerous cargo.All gearboxes are equipped with an oil supply system and a monitoring system, for unattended operation, as standard. The gearboxes cover a power rating range from 1,000 to 30,000 kW for speed reducing ratios from 1.5:1 up to approx. 12:1. The propeller shaft thrust bearings are fitted into the gearboxes. Advantage is frequently taken of this flexibility in the case of passenger liners such as ferry boats. PTOs are standard. In addition, primary PTOs are provided i. e. the multiple disk clutches which are fitted for connecting and disconnecting the engine are arranged in such a way that the PTO can be operated when the engine is running while the propeller is switched off.
