It is a further development of the iDrive philosophy used on the E65 and the book is divided into the following chapters:- Instrument cluster- Central Information Display- ConnectedService- Instrument clusterIn contrast with previous systems, the instrument cluster on the E60 is a new design featuring the latest visual display system.All driving related displays in the instrument cluster have been further optimized.The display technology deployed includes one innovative feature that BMW is using for the first time, namely an annular indicator system; this system has been optimally developed for the two main instruments. This system has enabled the displays for the set speed of the cruise control system and the variable engine speed warning zone to be visually enhanced.The pendulum dial layout for the analogue fuel gauge and fuel consumption indicator augments the compact appearance and design of the instrument cluster.The indicator lamp for the fuel reserve has been replaced by a Check Control message display. Likewise, the Check Control texts are no longer displayed in the instrument cluster but in the status bar of the Central Information Display (CID).This re-allocation to other display systems provides the driver with a better, visual separation of the display of messages and information.HGK-E60_1100.frb, 14. 03. 2003 Displays and ControlsBMW Service Aftersales TrainingE60 Displays and Indications Background MaterialChapter 1 P.2Electrical/ Electronic Systems- Central Information DisplayThe Central Information Display is the graphic display unit for the user interface of all convenience functions and some vehicle functions.By contrast with the E65, the CID in the E60 has just four menu items in the global main menu, namely Communication, Navigation, Enter- tainment and Climate Control.All individual user settings have been grouped together into an additional menu and can be displayed and selected by pressing the controller.There are two versions of the controller for the E60, a basic variant and a High variant.
