Page 1Verification of Accuracy (Note: Always wear personal protective equipment per facility policy) The monitor should be verified for accuracy each day of patient use. However, the monitor will force you to test for accuracy every 30 days. The verification filter, a specially modified blood chamber is included with each instrument and can only be used on that specific instrument. Ensure the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet by observing that the green light is illuminated.Turn on the Crit-Line monitor by flipping the switch located on the back of the unit. Attach the sensor clip firmly onto the verification filter. It will lock into place.Proceed to the MAIN MENU.Scroll the cursor down next to CALIBRATION and press SELECT. This will activate the CALIBRATION MENU.The left hand menu will indicate if the verification filter has been detected. This may take up to one minute. “VERIFY ACCURACY” will appear once the filter is detectedScroll the cursor next to “VERIFY ACCURACY” and press SELECT. The phrase “VERIFYING ACCURACY” will be displayed on the screen. In one minute, the screen will read either; “VERIFICATION PASSED READY FOR CLINICAL USE” or “VERIFICATION FAILED”.If “VERIFICATION PASSED READY FOR CLINICAL USE” is displayed, press RETURN to go to the MAIN MENU.If “VERIFICATION FAILED” is displayed, the unit will prompt you to repeat the “VERIFY ACCURACY” routine. After cleaning, ensuring that the verification filter is clean and dry, and the sensor clip is properly attached to the verification filter, press SELECT.If the Crit-Line is unable to verify accuracy after the second attempt, the monitor will automatically try to “RE-CALIBRATE” itself followed by a repeat “VERIFY ACCURACY” routine. If “RE-CALIBRATE” fails, repeat cleaning of the verification filter and sensor clip, make sure the sensor clip has been properly attached to the verification filter. “RE-CALIBRATE” can be retried as often as desired. Upon a successful completion of “RE-CALIBRATE” the monitor will automatically repeat “VERIFY ACCURACY”.If “VERIFY ACCURACY” and “RE-CALIBRATE” should both fail, the Crit-Line will prevent you from exiting the Calibration Menu. This safety feature prevents the clinician from using a monitor that will not provide accurate data.Remove device from the clinical setting.Inform Charge Nurse or Chief Technician.Call technical service department of Hema Metrics. Check the expiration date. (Do not use any blood chamber if the package has been opened, otherwise compromised, or expired.) Remove the blood chamber from its sterile packageRemove arterial end (red) cap from blood chamber Maintaining sterility, grasp blood chamber by the “wings” on the adapterPush the blood chamber straight down into the arterial header of the dialyzer. Tighten the blood chamber into the dialyzer by twisting at the “wings” of the adapter until the luer-lock threads are covered. Excessive force should be avoided. ( Do Not hold, twist, or tighten at the clear blood chamber)After removing white cap, attach the opposite end of the blood chamber to the twist lock fitting of the arterial blood tubing set.Ensure that all connections are tight.Prime the entire circuit with saline and remove air bubbles in the dialyzer using normal priming procedures, making sure that no air bubbles are trapped in the blood chamber. (If air bubbles are noted in the blood chamber during priming, remove by inverting the dialyzer and/or gently tapping the blood chamber while varying its position).Observe for leakage during the priming. If a leak occurs that is not alleviated by tightening the connections, untwist and reinsert to correct possible cross threading. If leaking continues, discard and replace the blood chamber. (Note: occasionally when inserting the blood chamber onto a “Dry Pack” dialyzer, leakage may occur after priming which is generally alleviated by tightening the connection). After placing the dialyzer in its final position for the dialysis treatment, verify the absence of blood tubing kinking per facility policy. Periodically throughout the treatment, the security of the connections and absence of blood tubing kinking should be verified per facility policy.EFFECTIVE DATE: 11-14-08 REVISED: 1-26-09REFERENCES: Crit-Line III TQA Reference Manual, Hema MetricsPage 3Initiating the Crit-Line Monitor (Note: Always wear personal protective equipment per facility policy) Ensure the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet by observing that the green light is illuminated.Turn on the Crit-Line monitor by flipping the switch located at the back of the monito
