INTRODUCTION The aim of Oil, Gas, Coal and Electricity Quarterly Statistics is to provide rapid, accurate and detailed statistics on production, supply and demand as well as trade of the major energy forms mainly in, but not limited to, the OECD area. The information con- tained in this publication consists of: Oil - Production of crude oil and NGL for the major producers in the world. - Refinery balances for crude oil, NGL, refinery feedstocks, and total (including inputs of origin other than crude oil and NGL). - Complete product balances of production, trade, refinery intake and output, final consumption, stock levels and changes. - Crude oil, NGL and refinery feedstocks imports from 46 origins and exports to 24 destinations. - Trade data for main product groups, LPG and naphtha; imports from 44 origins and exports to 30 destinations. Natural gas - Balances of supply and consumption of OECD Member countries. - Imports from 28 origins and exports to 20 destinations. Coal - World steam and coking coal and lignite production. - World steam coal and lignite, and coking coal trade.- Coking coal and steam coal imports and exports for OECD countries. Electricity - Balances of supply and consumption of OECD Member countries. The oil and natural gas information is derived from the Monthly Oil and Gas Statistics database. This information system has been developed by the Combined Energy Staff of the IEA in close collabo- ration with administrations of Member countries and international oil industry experts. It has been tailored to the needs not only of those involved in interna- tional supply and transportation, but also those con- cerned with oil and energy trends from the view- point of energy policy formulation and economic policy in general. Coal data for OECD countries for the first three quarters of a year are submitted by Member coun- tries, obtained from official national publications or websites or from other official publications, or are estimated using other reliable sources. For the fourth quarter of a year, all quarterly data are revised to be consistent with the annual data from the Coal Infor- mation publication. For EU me
