The colors of the river are so mixed with those of the sky in the horizon that it is virtually impossible to distinguish the drifting clouds from the flowing water.v1. 也就在这一幅绚烂的图画旁边, 在河湾 之畔, 一群羊正在低头觅食。v参考译文： It was near this splendid picture that a flock of sheep were lowering their heads and grazing on the river bend.v 解析：文中介词短语“在旁边”，并没用beside来翻译，而是用 near,这是因为这里羊和景色是融为一体的，用near翻译更恰当 。“一群羊”，大多数直接翻译成a group of sheep,但是在英文中有 很多一群的表达方式，而且不同的动物习惯于用不同的表达方式 ，如：a herd of cattle, a pack of wolves, a swarm of bees, a flock of birds等等，这里一群羊习惯于用a flock of sheep.“觅食”，即寻找食物，直译就是looking for food,但根据原文，河 边水草肥美，这样翻译不合适，应用graze指牲畜吃草，所以翻 译成grazing on the river bend.中文是两个表示地点的介词短语连在一块，而根据英文习惯，一 般不将两个地点状语并列放在前面，所以翻译时，将“在河湾之 畔”移到句尾，译为on the river bend.v2. 它们几乎没有一个顾得上抬起头来, 看一眼这美丽的 黄昏。也许它们要抓紧时间, 在即将回家的最后一刻再 次咀嚼。v参考翻译：Hardly any of them spared time to raise their heads and take a glance at the beautiful dusk. They were, perhaps, making use of every minute to enjoy their last chews before being driven home.v 解析：“它们几乎没有一个”这里用hardly any of them来翻译，这 里用否定副词hardly表示几乎没有，还有一些其他副词表示否定 的，如little, few, rarly, seldom,这些表否定的副词后面的代词要 用any，而不是no one 或 none 之类的否定代。“回家”这里不能直译成going home，因为根据原文，这群羊应该 是被牧羊人赶到这里来的。所以要用被动语态being driven home 来翻译。“抬起头来”“看一眼”为两个连续动词，所以译文当直接用and连接 两个动短语，译成 raise their heads and take a glance at “在即将回家的最后一刻”作时间状语，根据英文习惯，翻译时需 放到后面。 v3. 这是黄河滩上的一幕。牧羊人不见了, 他不知在何处 歇息。只有这些美生灵自由自在地享受着这个黄昏。v参考译文：This was a picture on the Yellow River Bank, in which the shepherd was out of sight, and might be resting in an unknown place. Only these beautiful creatures leisurely enjoyed themselves in the dusk. v解析：“牧羊人不见了”不能直译成the shepherd disappeared,因为这里的消失指的是我们看不见牧羊人 ，因为他不知在什么地方休息，故翻译成the shepherd was out of sight.v前两个在翻译时合并成了一个句子，把后面的句子翻译 为前一句的非限定性定语从句，用which引导。v4.这儿水草肥美, 让它们长得肥滚滚的, 像些胖娃 娃。如果走近了, 会发现它们那可爱的神情, 洁白 的牙齿, 那丰富而单纯的表情。v参考译文： The ample fresh water and exuberant plants had nurtured the sheep, making them grow as round as chubby babies. When approaching near, you would find their lovely faces with white teeth and their rich yet innocent facial expression.v解析：“水草肥美”这里“水”和“草”应该分别选择合适的 形容词来形容，这里用fresh修饰water, exuberant修 饰plants,最前面还用ample来指明充足、“让它们长得肥滚滚的, 像些胖娃娃”表达了作者对它 们的喜爱之情，由于中英文化差异，不能直译，译为 as round as ruby babies,在一事实上程度上传达出了 羊的“肥滚滚”，“像胖娃娃”的可爱样子。最后一句“那可爱的神情, 洁白的牙齿, 那丰富而单纯 的表情”中对羊的细节描写，这里“神情”指的是lovely faces;而“表情”指的是facial expression,这些用with引 导，为介词短语，作lovely faces的后置定语。
