Unit 1Unit 1一 模仿朗读。听下面六段材料,然后根据录音大声朗读。每段录音读两遍。1.注意辅音连缀、连读和停顿Cats are animals of habit. They like to go to sleep about the same time every day and for a certain length of time. They seem to have a natural clock inside them that tells them when to sleep. In addition to their regular sleep times, cats occasionally take naps. Some scientists think that people should also take “catnaps”. This habit is good for peoples health. A lot of famous people take catnaps during the day, usually lasting fifteen to thirty minutes. Winston Churchill took catnaps; so did a few presidents of the United States.Unit 11.注意辅音连缀、连读和停顿Catsare animalsof habit./They like to go to sleep/about the same time every day/and fora certain lengthof time./They seem to havea natural clock inside them/that tells them when to sleep./ Inaddition to their regular sleep times,/catsoccasionally take naps./ Some scientists think/that people shouldalso take “catnaps”./This habitis good for peoples health./A lotof famous people take catnaps during the day,/usually lasting fifteen to thirty minutes./Winston Churchill took catnaps;/so dida few presidentsof the United States.Unit 12. 注意停顿、连读和语调The world is not only hungry; it is also thirsty. This may seem strange since nearly 75% of the earths surface is covered with water. But about 97% of this huge amount is seawater. Man can only drink and use the other 3% that comes from rivers, lakes, underground springs, and other freshwater sources. And we cannot even use all of that because some of it has been polluted. At the moment, this small amount of freshwater is still enough for us. However, our need for water is increasing rapidly. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a serious world water shortage later on.Unit 12. 注意停顿、连读和语调The worldis notonly hungry;/itisalso thirsty./This may seem strange /since nearly 75% of theearthssurfaceis covered with water./Butabout 97% of this hugeamountis seawater./Man can only drinkand use theother 3%/that comes from rivers,/lakes,/underground springs,/andother freshwater sources./And we cannot even use allof that/because someofit has been polluted./ At the moment,/this small amountof freshwateris still enough forus./ However, our need for waterisincreasing rapidly./Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now/can we avoida serious world water shortage lateron.Unit 13. 注意连读、失去爆破和不完全爆破More than 20 species of albino animals have been found in Shennongjia Forest. The area has become known as the home of the worlds albino animals. During the 1950s, several albino bears that had been caught in the area were showcased around the world. In 1997, a team was organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to clarify reports of “wild man” in the area. Instead of catching any “wild man”, they returned with many kinds of albino animals. In the beginning, no one understood the scientific importance of these creatures. Now, however, Chinese scientists believe that their color is caused by either close breeding or environmental influences. Species of albino animals do exist throughout the world, but most of these animals are very rare. Unit 14. 注意辅音连缀、连读及语调When we think of paper, we think of newspapers and books. But there are many other uses for paper. Only half of the worlds paper is used for books and newspapers. Paper is very good for keeping you warm. You have perhaps seen homeless men sleeping under a large number of newspapers. In Finland, it is sometimes -40 in winter, and many people wear paper boots in the snow. Nothing could be warmer! Each year, more and more things are made out of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time, but chairs, tables, and even beds can now be made out of paper. You can wear paper hats, paper dresses, and paper raincoats. When you have used them once, you throw them away and buy new ones.Unit 14. 注意辅音连缀、连读及语调When we thinkof paper,/we thinkof newspapers/and books./But there are many other uses for paper./Only halfof the worlds paper/is used for books/and newspapers./Paper is very good for keeping you warm. /You have perhaps seen homeless men sleeping undera large numberof newspapers./In
