BuddhaHe then got enlightened under the Bodhi tree (菩提树) after six-year meditation and became the Buddha, “the Awakened One,” hence the name Shakyamuni / Sakyamuni, meaning “Sage of the Sakyas (释迦 族的圣人).”BuddhaHe realized that nothing is lost in the world and there are continuous changes due to the law of cause and effect known as karma (因缘).万物不生不灭一切变化都是缘起Transition to Pratyeka BuddhaNow, on either side of the Buddha are 20 devas or heavenly beings ( 天神), and 12 Pratyeka Buddhas ( 缘觉) sit cross-legged behind. Goddess of MercyShe is supposed to live at sea and carry all the living creatures (终生) to the shore of happiness ( 幸福的彼岸). Bodhisattva of Infinite CompassionShe is also believed to deliver a boy to a childless family, and thats why you can often see many couples coming to pray to her for a boy. 送子观音Bodhisattva of Infinite CompassionSudhanaThe boy standing beside her is called Sudhana (善财童子) or Red Child.He is said to have gone through various ordeals ( 考验) to learn from 53 famous masters before getting enlightened and serving as a disciple (徒 弟) of Guanyin. 善财童子五十三参SudhanaThe maiden statue is the Dragon Maiden (龙女), the daughter of the dragon king.
