Unit1 My names Gina The first period(SectionA) From Yuqiao Analysis of the unit and the students: After three starter units, Ss must have known some expressions about greeting people, indentifying things, spelling words and talking about colors. Meanwhile, some related vocabulary have been input. Therefore, in this unit, they will learn how to introduce themselves and exchange telephone numbers, which will surely benefit them a lot in making friends with each other. Teaching Objectives: Knowledge aims To learn the vocabularies and expressions: name, nice, to, meet, too, your, Ms., present tense to be, What questions To review some vocabularies theyve learnt recently. Ability aims: To learn to greet people. To learn to introduce themselves. Emotion Aims To be brave to make friends with new classmates. To learn that making friends is important. Teaching important points: To help Ss practise greeting people and introducing themselves in English Teaching difficult points: 1. Ss may have be too shy to speak in English loudly. 2. How to help every student practise enough. Teaching methods: Task-based activities Pair work and group work Teaching aids: paste paper and colorful chalk Time allocation: 45 minutes. Teaching Steps: Step1 Greetings 1. -Good afternoon! How are you? Im Ms Ning. Nice to meet you! T greets the whole class and introduces herself to review what they learnt in Starter Units and present in advance what they will learn in this class. 2. -what is the name of the school? Is it nice? Are you happy here? T asks Ss some questions about their life. Firstly in Chinese, and then in English to introduce the new words. Step2 Preparations 1. -Now, look at the picture on P1. When and where are they talking? What are the things in English? T shows Ss the picture on P1 and asks them to write English words for the things in the picture in pairs. Then Ss read these words after the teacher. 2. -Lets look at the picture again. This time, please find out the names of these people. T asks Ss to look at the picture again to find out the names of these people, which will prepare them for the listening task. Then Ss read these names after the teacher. 3. - Do you have an English name? Would you like to have one? T shows Ss some English names for them to choose one, which will present an English learning situation. Step3 Listening -Well, dont forget your English names and please use them in and after class. Now, Lets listen to some conversations. 1. T plays the recording the first time.(Ss only listen) 2. T plays the recording the second time.(Ss number the conversations) 3. T reads the conversations in 1b and have Ss repeat. T points out questions starting with the word what end with falling intonation. Step4 Practicing -All of you have done a very good job. Now, practice reading the conversation with your partner and use your own English name. 1. T asks Ss to practice reading the conversations in 1b with their partner. 2. T asks Ss to practice greet their partner using their own English name. If they like, they can use what they have learnt before to make the conversations longer. 3. T asks some pairs to come to the front of the class and greet each other using their new English name. T helps with pronunciation as needed and reminds the Ss of not being shy when making new friends. 4. T asks some Ss to come to the front and greet each other using what they learn today. Step5 Consolidation - Is it useful? Yes, it can help you make friends. Now, please greet me again. T summarizes what is learnt today. Step6 Homework 1. Read the conversation. 2.
