,The,Graduate,Storyline,Ben has recently graduated college, with his parents now expecting great things from him. At his “Homecoming“ party, Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his fathers business partner, has Ben drive her home, which leads to an affair between the two. The affair eventually ends, but comes back to haunt him when he finds himself falling for Elaine, Mrs. Robinsons daughter.,Perplexed,Confused,Mis-directed,Decadent,Alienated,Adrift,What a graduate may be?,.,What should we do?,?,?,?,This is a dialogue between Ben and Mr. Braddock (Ben father),Ben: Im just. Mr. Braddock: .worried? Ben: Well. Mr. Braddock: About what? Ben: I guess about my future. Mr. Braddock: What about it? Ben: I dont know. I want it to be. Mr. Braddock: .to be what? Ben: .Different.,Ben tells his father that he is rudderless - he has no plans or direction to his life and is worried about his future.Ben is confused and frustrated, trying to make sense of adult life and game-playing, and attempting to find his own standards. He is struggling to search out an honest and sincere way to live his own life, without following his parents California lifestyle.,About “Plastics”,Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you just one word. Ben: Yes sir. Mr. McGuire: Are you listening? Ben: Yes I am. Mr. McGuire: Plastics. Ben: Exactly how do you mean? Mr. McGuire: Theres a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it? Ben: Yes I will. Mr. McGuire: Shh! Enough said. Thats a deal.,In fact, the “plastics” here represent the social and sexual mores of the 1960s, and Ben words reflect that the graduate are questioning the values of society.,About Ben,Captain of the Crosscountry Team Head of the Debating Club Associate Editor of the college newspaper in his Junior year Managing Editor in his Senior .,Benjamin Braddock returns home to California after successfully completing college. He gets a heros welcome from his parents but Ben isnt quite sure what to do with the rest of his life. He is soon seduced by Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his fathers partner, who methodically pursues the inexperienced young man. Soon, they are meeting regularly in hotel rooms. Warned by her to stay away from her daughter Elaine, his father goads him into taking her out on a date. He finds he quite likes Elaine but when she learns hes been having an affair with her own mother, shell have nothing to do with him. Hes smitten however and pursues her.,But he do love Elaine,His notepad is covered with his words reflecting his obsession: “Dear Elaine Elaine -, Elaine -, Elaine -, Elaine -.“,He loves her so much that he rent a house near her university. He loves her so much that he wait for her in a coffee room which she usually pass by. He loves her so much that he pretend meet her at the bus At the end, he got the love,The action is mainly seen through the eyes of Benjamin Braddock, a confused twenty-one year old, who is worried about his future but who does not simply want to follow the commercial path of his affluent family and their friends.,The pool,He can only hear his own voice (He is different to his parents and others in this world ) His fathers pressuring and prodding forces him to slip into the pool, and he swims underwater beyond his parents reach( He is not belong to this world ),Wedding,In the memorable climactic rescue scene at the films conclusion.Elaine and Benjamin run out of the church together, using a large golden church cross he pulls down from the wall, first as a weapon to clear a path and then as a barrier for the large glass doors to prevent everyone from following into their world. With the glass door securely locked, they symbolically and literally hold back the forces of resistance by their act of rebellion.,Here the large golden church cross represents the chains of the whole societys values. With everyone were tracked by the church cross, our story got an ending: Ben and Elaine find their new world, the others stayed in the old world.,Thank you!,
