Quality management in the automotive industry QM-system audit Part 4 - Production equipment - Based on DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 9004-1 2nd Edition 2005 Verband der Automobilindustrie Verband der Automobilindustrie Quality management system audit - Production equipment - Based on DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 9004 2nd Edition 2005 Verband der Automobilindustrie e.V. (VDA) 3 Non-binding VDA Standard recommendation The Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA) recommends to organizations supplying production equipment to VDA members to apply the following standard for the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems. Exclusion of liability VDA volumes are recommendations that are available to everyone. Anyone applying them is responsible for ensuring that they are used correctly in each case. This VDA volume takes into account state of the art technology, current at the time of issue. Implementation of VDA recommendations excludes no one from responsibility for their own actions. In this respect everyone acts at their own risk. The VDA and those involved in issuing VDA recommen- dations shall bear no liability. If during the use of VDA recommendations, errors or the possibility of mis- interpretation are found, it is requested that these be notified to the VDA immediately, so that any possible faults can be corrected. Quality management is a key interdisciplinary undertaking (co-operation of all involved divisions at the right time) and has a decisive influence on or- ganizational results. Higher expectations placed on products, stricter product liability laws and international competition demand highly effective quality management sys- tems in all areas of the automotive industry, including vehicle manufactur- ers as well as their suppliers. VDA presents the Quality Standard of the German Automotive Industry in Volume 6 of its publications. The requirements for the different groups of suppliers are laid down in individual volumes: Suppliers of materials, parts and components for vehicles (Part 1) Service providers (Part 2) Suppliers of production equipment (Part 4) The present Part 4 of the VDA Volume 6 serves the evaluation of quality management systems in the area of production equipment (manufacture of machines, plant, tools, fixtures, measuring, test and inspection equipment (see definition in 3.1). It was prepared in a VDA work group with the par- ticipation of the VDMA, ZVEI and their member organizations. The branch of production equipment suppliers includes single production, (special machines, .) as well as serial production (components or stan- dard products) and combinations thereof. In this respect, specific require- ments must be appropriately interpreted and applied. 6 This second edition represents a revision of content and further develop- ment of the standard. It differs from the previous edition in being structured according to ISO 9001:2000, as well as making use of the additional provi- sions of ISO/TS 16949. In this way, the requirements are no longer formu- lated as questions that simultaneously provide the basis for audit and evaluation. The audit makes use of the process approach of ISO 9001:2000 for the assessment of organizations/suppliers to create a standard process struc- ture allowing for comparable and reproducible results. Each standard proc- ess is evaluated via six fundamentally similar questions, which are ex- tracted for this purpose from the IATF process model. The evaluation of these questions is facilitated by a slightly modified VDA points system, leading in the familiar way to a level of compliance from which a grading can be determined. The procedure is described in Annex A, whereas the details and rules for 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-party audits and certification are de- scribed in
