Welcome Back,Do you love children?,Are they lovely?,Angels,Dreamy angels for many adults,What do you think of your parents?,What are their strengths and weaknesses in bringing you up?,In what way are you going to parent your children?,Strict as a tiger mother or lion father,Kind as a lenient mother or doting father,Amy Chua with her daughters, Louisa and Sophia, at their home in New Haven, Conn.,The Tiger Mother,Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior ? By AMY CHUA - The Tiger Mother,The vast majority of the Chinese mothers said that they believe their children can be “the best” students, that “academic achievement reflects successful parenting,” and that if children did not excel at school, then there was “a problem” and parents “were not doing their job.”,How do we treat our offspring in future?,There are 2 different parenting styles: good and bad. Though all parents want to be the good kind, its not that simple.,Five Different Parenting Styles,Parents have different backgrounds, childhood experiences, cultural beliefs, temperaments and approaches to parenting. Additionally, kids themselves have different needs and personalities.,1. Attachment Parenting (依恋型),The goal of this parenting is to become highly attuned (adjusted) to a childs needs and maintain this closeness as a child grows and develops. This style places great importance on the bonding through co-sleeping. The parents usually sleep with the child in the same room, sometimes even in the same bed.,The attachment parenting may produce kids who are overly dependent and parents who are excessively exhausted.,2. Authoritarian Parenting (独裁型),Authoritarian parents interact with their kids through commands and directives. They leave no room for debate, and their children cannot make their own decisions. The parents maintain strict discipline. Authoritarian parenting may produce kids who are less independent or who lack the ability to think for themselves. And it can destroy a childs self-confidence and result in teenage rebellion.,3. Permissive Parenting (宽容型),Permissive parenting is the polar opposite of authoritarian parenting. A permissive parent tends to respond positively to the demands of the child. Wishes are fulfilled, toys are purchased, and “wants” generally are handled like “needs.” In many cases, kids get live the carefree childhood that their parents may not have had in their youth.,A permissive parent usually tries to be friends with the child, instead of assuming the role of authority figure. Parents may pacify their children with gifts, games and distractions.,Using the permissive parenting style, you may raise a child to have a strong sense of individuality. You may also raise a spoiled brat (monster).,4. Authoritative Parenting (权威型),Authoritative parenting combines the better aspects of permissive parenting and authoritarian parenting. Authoritative parents hope to raise a well-adjusted kid: Have expectations for the child that increase as the child grows older. Dont ignore rebellion, and stand strong when a child refuses to do as told. Explain why things are done a certain way, not just how. Make an effort not to be intimidating or domineering all the time.,The children raised in this situation will be responsible, self-monitoring and self-confident. They will be able to make decisions about right and wrong based on a solid foundation of ethical instruction and discussion, and not just based on a list of dos and donts. Authoritative parents dont rely on punishment as the only means of correcting behavior.,5. Active Parenting (积极主动型),Active parenting involves a continuing quest on the part of the parents to improve their parenting skills and stay abreast of new developments in child psychology and teaching methods. Active parents take a proactive approach to parenting, as opposed to waiting for problems or issues to develop before they are addressed. They try to beat the problem to the punch (do sth beforehand) and increase a childs awareness of an inevitable problem before it arises.,Besides developing their childrens self-esteem, confidence and responsibility, active parents hope to augment (boost) the integrity, character and decision-making skills of their children.,What do you expect from your children?,Do we expect too much of our kids?,Or too little?,Our expectations of children start as fantasies when we are children ourselves. We may expect our child to be the first in the neighborhood to achieve developmental milestones; to excel at school; to have a great personality and be liked by every peer; to be physically a good sport; and to be of good character. A perfect child!,But reality always trumps dreamy expectations.,The best way to develop realistic expectations is to pay attention to the childs temperament and personality and learn a bit about child development.,留学(英美澳法加新六国)租房,www.6apt.com 留学公寓在线隶属于同维思创网络科技(北京)有限责任公司。公司总部位于国家级大学科技园 - 中国人民大学文化科技园。 www.6apt.com 提供免费的海外学生公寓在线预订服务,不收取任何手续费或中介费。留学生直接向海外学生公
