Deconstructing Co-Dependence 101Saturday, April 12, 20088:30am 12 noonSt. Pauls Cathedral 2728 6th Ave. San Diego, 92103Located in The Great HallA New PATH (Parents for Addiction Treatment and Healing) is pleased to invite you to a morning of open conversation about the impact of drug and alcohol addiction on individuals, their families and communities, and to participate in the conversation as parents explore the balance between harm reduction and tough love in dealing with addictive illness. We will: explore the intricacies of the disease of substance abuse and the effects of the disease on family members. discuss the high cost of tough love approaches, vs. more therapeutic strategies aimed at harm reduction present a realistic understanding of the problem from a personal, as well as a healthcare perspective suggest actions to take in order to provide necessary support to loved ones with addictive illness, as they journey through the disease, treatment, relapse, and often incarceration. question whether support is ethical and necessary or promoting of self-destructive behavior. Families are encouraged to create workable plans for reintegration with family members from institutions into the community and to advocate for therapeutic treatment opportunities, rehabilitation, and reunification. Our goal is to reduce recidivism, save lives, and heal families. Participant will be made more aware of the need to advocate for the 5 Rs: recovery, rehabilitation, respect, reintegration, and reunification.
