Writing reports generally involves other important workplace skills ,such as research ,analysis and collaboration There are several ways to classify reports ,Question,Do you know how to write a report now ? OK ,read on!,13.3 Sample reports,Read the following sample reports to get some ideas about how to write a successful report ,13.4 Analysis and discussion,A short report usually includes the following parts: terms of reference Procedures followed definitions of particular terms if necessary findings conclusions recommendations,a sample transmittal letter,13.5 Points to remember,(1)The writer should be clear whether or not the reader knows the background for the report ,and whether it is necessary to provide the background information in the report (2)Before settling down to writing ,the writer must collect sufficient information for the report (3) Reports should be written in a formal and objective style (4) Keep the language simple ,(5)The emphasis of a report should be on facts and the presentation of the facts should be logical and unemotional (6)At the end of the “introduction” part ,it is advisable that the writer give a brief introduction of the overall arrangement of the report so that the reader will find it easier to follow ,Question,Do you think the above list is complete ? The second step is to determine what type of report is required The third step is to collect the necessary information When adequate information has been gathered ,the next step is to sort out the obtained information The following task is to organize the data.
