重庆大学硕士学位论文Chapter OneIntroductiontwo main aims: giving description on the state and influence of Chinese translatedliterature during the May 4th span, and using these historical facts during the May 4thspan to verify Even-Zohars some hypotheses concerning translation and translatedliterature.1.3 Significance and MethodologyThe significance of this dissertation lies in the dual function of theoreticalverification and historical recognition.Using foreign translation theories to develop research on typical cases in Chinesetranslated literature history, or in other words, using historical facts in Chinesetranslated literature history to verify foreign translation theories or hypotheses is asignificant way to learn and absorb foreign theories and use them for reference toestablish Chinese translation theories.On the other hand, the four booms in Chinese translation circle, especially the oneduring the May 4th period, have always been the focuses of researchers. Though therealready have been so many researches, the understanding and recognition on them willbe strengthened if studied from different angles. Using foreign translation theories toexplain and study Chinese translation facts can not only verify the effect andexplanation power of those hypotheses but also reinforced the cognition andunderstanding of Chinese translation and translated literature history.Finally there comes the qualitative analysis of this dissertation. What the researchof this dissertation concerns about is not the “translation” in its traditional meaning,namely such as those researches on translation principles, translation criticism,translation strategy, translation process, translation product and translators, but theso-called macro-translation. However, it does belong to the scope of translationresearch although it does not pay close attention to the specific subjects occurred intranslation process.
