After receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1903, she traveled to Paris, France to study music and painting. It was there in 1908 she watched Wilbur Wright demonstrate his Wright Flyer. Then she set into motion her own intentions of flying a plane. Then Bessica met Francois “Frank“ C. Raiche. The two married and moved to Hempstead, New York. October 13, 1910, Bessica was awarded a diamond- studded gold medal with the inscription “First Woman Aviator in America“ by Hudson Maxim.
