However, functional equivalence theory asks the fact that the target language readers can have the same feeling with the source language readers. Therefore, in order to make the audience have a better understanding of American TV series and know of the world outside, it is very necessary to use the functional equivalence theory in subtitle translation.Owing to the particularity of film translation, the thesis is to put forward an idea that when translating, Nidas functional equivalence theory should be applied to subtitle translation which is much better than “keeping faith”, “equivalence” and “equivalent”. To explain more fully the effectiveness of subtitle translation under equivalence theory, this article is to undertake a comprehensive analysis of the subtitle translation of Beauty and the Beast under functional equivalence theory. The analysis is to show that when translating, using functional equivalence theory is quite efficient so that the audience can have a better understanding of American TV series. The paper is to explore the feasibility and necessity of subtitle translation in Beauty and the Beast from linguistic and stylistic level under functional equivalence theory.
