Unit 5 Familiar Neighborhood Period One Teaching Aims:1. Study the new words and expressions in Reading.2. Finish the tasks in the Getting Ready.3. Grasp the key words in the Getting Ready.Teaching Procedures:Step one: Introduction(Group work)Show the students the topic sentence and ask students to use some examples to explain the sentence in their own words. They may first discuss it in their group and then select one person to state it before class. It is better to believe your neighbors than to fear and distrust them.Revise: It is better to do sth. than to do sth. Step two: Getting ReadyTask 1: Ask students to finish the form by themselves and show their answers to the class. If they meet some problems in filling the chart, dont give them the correct answer immediately and try to encourage them find the answers by themselves. Ask students to skim the Reading passage and finish the task1,2 in the Comprehending.2.Read the Reading passage again and find the difficult and unfamiliar words and sentences. Teaching Procedures: 1. Show students a picture of girl waiting at the bus station around 8 a.m., a picture of jogger running at 3 oclock and a picture of a woman walking her dog early in the morning.2. Ask students to talk about the pictures and give necessary words and expressions.3. Skim the passage and get the general idea and decide which sentence is the topic sentence of the passage? A.
