Probability and Random Processes for Electrical and Computer EngineersIntroductionProbability and random processes are fundamental concepts in electrical and computer engineering. They are used to model and analyze complex systems, such as communication networks, signal processing systems, and control systems. The Probability and Random Processes for Electrical and Computer Engineers course is designed to introduce students to these concepts and their application in real-world engineering problems.Course ObjectivesThe objectives of this course are to: Develop an understanding of probability theory and random variables Develop an understanding of random processes and stochastic modeling Develop an understanding of statistical inference and estimation Apply probability and random processes in real-world engineering problemsCourse OutlineThis course will cover the following topics: Probability theory: sample space, events, probability laws, conditional probability, Bayes theorem, random variables, probability distributions, mean and variance, moment generating functions, and characteristic functions. Random processes: definitions and classification, stationarity, correlation functions, power spectral density, ergodicity, and Markov processes. Statistical inference and estimation: parameter estimation, maximum likelihood estimation, Bayesian estimation, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals. Applications: communication networks, signal processing systems, and control systems.Teaching MethodologyThis course will be taught using a combination of lectures, tutorials, and hands-on assignments. Lectures will provide students with a theoretical understanding of the concepts, while tutorials will help students apply the concepts to engineering problems. The hands-on assignments will provide students with practical experience in using probability and random processes to solve real-world problems.AssessmentStudents will be assessed using the following methods: Assignments: 40% Mid-term exam: 30% Final exam: 30%ConclusionThe Probability and Random Processes for Electrical and Computer Engineers course provides students with a foundation for understanding and using probability and random processes in engineering problems. Upon completion of this course, students will have developed the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to analyze and design complex systems in a variety of engineering domns.3
