(10 points) My daughter and I were walking down the hill back to my car.“What did you just say, Mom?” asked my youngest daughter. Her question caused me to stop walking as I was 1 that Id said anything. I am now at an age when I 2 talk aloud to myself. I knew it happened when I listened to talkback radio, but I hadnt 3 it also happened when I adventured with daughter.“Sweet pea, I didnt realize you heard me, 4 I was just saying woooah because of that view at the bottom of the hill.”There, in front of us in all of her beauty, was Sydney Harbor. Its a sight I never 5 of; sometimes I 6 it out because it makes my heart sing. What is the 7 to happiness? There is no simple answer. However, for me, it means 8 the small joys in life.Too often we 9 time waiting for the “extraordinary” and forget to celebrate the 10 moments of bliss (幸福). Things like 11 my girls sandy fingers as we watch a pink sunset on the beach. In these moments my heart 12 , and Im happy.Laughter matters too. When I laugh, life is good. So it made me happy to dress up in a green pea suit and surprise my husband.“ 13 !” I shouted as he walked into our bedroom. There was a 14 silence, then a question.“Are you all right?” asked Peter.“Yes! Dont you think this is funny?” I replied, a little annoyed. 15 his nonplussed (令人发懵的) response, I couldnt help laughing about it later with my friends. 16 I want to be happy, since becoming a parent I have come to recognize that I can only ever be as happy as my 17 child. My heart is heavy when my girl has troubles, and no number of harbor sightings will 18 that.I do my best to 19 that weight on my soul by celebrating moments of joy with my family. When my daughter chats with me about her day at school, it makes me happy. A little thing like this, coming in the middle of the mess and 20 of life, is enough for me to recognize that the day is a happy day.1、AuncertainBunhappyCunawareDunusual2、Atend toBhappen toCattempt toDsee to3、AfeltBimaginedCrealizedDunderstood4、AandBbutCorDwhile5、AdreamBhearCtireDthink6、AfindBholdCletDseek7、AsolutionBapproachCanswerDkey8、AappreciatingBacknowledgingCaddressingDapplying9、AtakeBwasteCkillDspare10、ApermanentBlongCshortDexciting11、AgraspingBtouchingCshakingDholding12、AextendsBspreadsCexpandsDstretches13、ASurpriseBGreatCLookDYes14、AabsoluteBlongCbriefDshocked15、ABesidesBDespiteCConsideringDConcerning16、AAlthoughBSinceCBecauseDWhen17、AhappiestBunhappiestCyoungestDoldest18、AstrengthenBshortenCbroadenDlessen19、AbalanceBincreaseChideDescape20、AhappinessBtensionCworryDthrillSection II Reading ComprehensionPart ADirections:Read the following four texts. Answer the questions below each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Mark your answers on the ANSWER SHEET. (40 points)Text 1 Why should mankind explore space? Why should money, time and effort be spent exploring and researching something with so few apparent benefits? Why should resources be spent on space rather than on conditions and people on Earth? These are questions that, understandably, are very often asked.Perhaps the best answer lies in our genetic makeup as human beings. What drove our ancestors to move from the trees into the plains, and on into all possible areas and environments? The wider the spread of a species, the better its chance of survival. Perhaps the best reason for exploring space is this genetic tendency to expand wherever possible.Nearly every successful civilization has explored, because by doing so, any dangers in surrounding areas can be identified and prepared for. Without knowledge, we may be completely destroyed by the danger. With knowledge, we can lessen its effects.Exploration also allows minerals and other potential resources to be found. Even if we have no immediate need of them, they will perhaps be useful later. Resources may be more than physical possessions. Knowledge or techniques have been acquired through exploration. The techniques may have medical applications which can improve the length or quality of our lives. We have already benefited from other spin offs of space exploration. The technical improvements in earthquake prediction, in satellites for weather forecasting and in communications systems have long been in effect. While many resources are spent on what seems a small return, the exploration of space allows creative, brave and intelligent members of our species to focus on what may serve to save us.
