Unfortunately, Sudha developed diabetes while pregnant and her daughters were born two months premature. They need ventilator (呼吸机) support for the next 4-6 weeks to breathe. The family is poor and does not have the money to meet the unexpected expenses and need help to keep the babies alive.Nandakumar, a carpenter by profession, fell sick after marriage and has not recovered fully. He is not mentally stable and tends to talk in a stream. He also finds it hard to hold down a job. Nandakumars mother Dheivanai has been the stabilising presence for the family. She kept things together and made sure that they had enough to eat.“Sudha has been through a lot of grief over not having children. The previous child was still born, so we were very happy that this pregnancy was going well,” said Dheivanai. Dheivanai hoped that the children would bring joy to their household and take care of her son even after she was gone. She started saving up money for her grandchildren.The cost of keeping the children alive is Rs 4 lakhs per child because they each need ICU (Intensive Care Unit) support for the next 4-6 months of their lives. The small savings of the family are already over and they are faced with a very painful situation trying to save two newborns with no money.Nandakumar is mentally unwell and Sudha is still recovering from childbirth. So it falls to his mother to arrange for the babies5 well-being. “After my son became sick, me and my daughter-in-law have taken care of things. During her pregnancy.
