After a few years, Chapman left the hills of western Pennsylvania and travelled west into the Ohio Valley. He transported(运输) sixteen bushels(蒲式耳:谷物和水果的容量单位,相当于8加仑) of apple seeds down the Ohio River in 1801.Chapman was careful about where he planted apple seeds. First, he would find rich, fertile land in an open area. Then, he cleared the land, carefully removing(除去) unwanted plants.
