I. Teaching ContentThe topic of this unit is friends and friendship. In these reading from The Diary of Anne Frank, students will see how a lonely and frightened teenager copes with a very unusually stressful situation. She dose this by confiding in Kitty, the name of her diary. Anne didnt want to set a series of facts in diary as most people do, but she want her diary to be her friend. So Anne called her diary Kitty. She examines her problems and tries to find a way to deal with them. II. Teaching important and difficult pointsTeaching important points:1. Talk about friends and friendship and get the students to learn different reading skills.Teaching difficult points:1. Understand the real meaning of friends and friendship.2. Discuss the questions.What would you miss most if you went into hiding like Anne and her family? Explain why.How would you describe Annes feelings as she was looking out into the night sky?III. Teaching procedures:Step 1: Lead-in1.Play two songs on friendship, then ask the students what they are about. 2. Have a discussion about friendship with the students. Get the students to make a list of three qualities a good friend should have. (honest , helpful , trustworthy, tolerant, easygoing, responsible)Step 2: Pre-readingActivity 1: Ask students some questions 1. Why do we need friends?( Friends are very important to everyone. When you are happy, you can share your happiness with your friends; when you are not happy, your friends will also can to help you) 2. Does a friend always to be a person? why?(No, may be is a book or a dog) 3. What is Annes best friend? (her diary)Activity 2: predicting. Students are asked to predict what happened to Annes family by looking at the picture and the title of the passage. Write down students responses on the blackboard in order that they can confirm their predictions later while reading the text. Thus, students learning strategy of predicting is improved and their curiosity is aroused.Activity 3: based on Leading-in questions ask students to guess what the reading text is aboutStep 3: While-reading Activity 1: Skimming Questions Designed for Skimming. It involves students reading a text in order to locate specific information quickly.
