PreviewHaveyou ever had difficultytalking to yourparents? It is well known aroundthe worldthatyoung people and their parents very often seem to fail in their attempts to communicate with each other It is as if they hear each other , and, not liking what they hear , choose to ignore it. By doing this, they send false messages to each other . As a result, too often, their two differentworldsgo separatedirections or meet head-on, creating what is known as the generation gap. This unit explores that gap: first, through contrasts between how a daughter and her parents experience the same situation, and next, through seeing the situation as the parents see it and, finally, the same situation as two young people understand it. Welcome to our world of communication where its all too easy to expect others to be perfect while never being perfect ourselves.A Busy Weekday MorningThe radio clicked on. Get ready for school or youll be late!Sandy walked into the bathroom andturned onthe shower. At first, the water felt cold. It helped her wake up. Then, as the water got hotter, she thought, This shower feels great and in here I can be alone and sing. No one disturbs me in here. She grabbed the soap and washed thoroughly , including her hair. If she stayed in the shower too long, her mom or dadusually banged on the door to rush her so she grabbed a towel and dried off. After her shower,Sandybrushed her hair, put on her old, greenT-shirt andsome jeans and wrapped her sweater around hershoulders.
