For man is slowly changing all the time. Let us take an obvious example. Man,even five hundred years ago,was shorter than he is today. Now,on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is a relatively short period of time,so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again,in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so,we still make use of only about 20% of the brains capacity. As time goes on,however,we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head,in particular the forehead, will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact,we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that mans eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand,we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These,as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald. Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at!This may well be true. All the same,in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with use. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own. 1.The passage mainly tells us that_. A .mans life will be different in the future B. future man will look quite different from us C. man is growing taller and uglier as time passes D. mans organs functions will be on the wane 2.What serves as the evidence that man is changing? A. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had. B. Mans hair is getting thinner and thinner. C. Mans arms and legs have become lighter and weaker. D. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years. 3.The change in mans size of forehead is probably because_. A.he makes use only 20% of the brains capacity B.his brain has grown larger over the past centuries C.the other 80% of his brain will grow in due time D.he will use his brain more and more as time goes onB What should you think about when trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show the strengths that you can use in your work.A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work.So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard.Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value.A knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs. Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metalwork or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills. If you have had a parttime job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it.If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time,to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example.Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a parttime job. Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be_ all_ thumbs when you handle tools;perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weakness than to pretend they do not exist.Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic(认错的)about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work. 4.What is the passage mainly about? A.The importance of working hard at school. B.Choosing a career according to ones strengths. C.How to face ones weakness. D.The value of school work. 5.According to the passage, doing a parttime job for a student is probably _. A.a good way to find out his weak points B.one of the best ways of
