Module 6 Unit 2 The London Eye is on your Right1. Analysis of teaching material (1). Status and functionThis is the sixth module in the whole book. The topic of this module is about traveling. And centering on this topic, we will learn how to ask and give directions, and some expressions about describing positions. According to the National Curriculum Standard, such a topic is related to students daily life, so it is easy to arouse students interests in this module. Unit two is a reading and writing lesson. The main content is a short tour in London. In the first unit, we have already learnt the expressions of asking and giving directions. The students are familiar with this topic and the relating expressions. In unit two, we will learn some famous places in London and their positions. Also the use of some nouns and prepositions which show positions will be further learnt. It will improve students abilities in reading and daily English, and the topic of a tour in London will expand students horizon and help them know more about the world.(2). Analysis of the studentsFor students in grade seven, they have a proper amount of words and grammar. From the last lesson, they can use some expressions of asking and giving directions fluently and properly. And their interests in this topic have been aroused. So it is the proper time to introduce the famous places in London and their positions to students. Somehow, the students are not familiar with the famous places in London. Besides, they have some difficulties to find the places on the map. So the teacher should try to create some daily situations for the students to help them grasp and use the key expressions in this unit.(3). Teaching objectivesAccording to the National Curriculum Standard, in our English teaching process, we emphasize on the knowledge teaching, whats more, we should pay more attention to English ability development, emotional goal and the view of values. At the same time, students ability to explore by themselves should be enhanced. So after studying the teaching material and analyzing the students learning background, I establish the following teaching aims.Knowledge aims.(1) To learn and use the following key vocabulary correctly: Noun:painting, river, bridge, post office, stop Verb:finish,Adjectives:famous, clear, highPreposition:past, from, above, up, down(2) To learn more expressions of giving directions and describing positionsTake the boat backGet off the boat atThe way to Get to Ability aims.(1) The students should be able to get information from the reading material about some famous places in London.(2) Students communicative ability of asking and giving directions will be improved, and they are able to read maps and follow the instruction. (3) After studying, students should be able to write a passage about giving directions and introduce some famous places in their hometown.Emotional aims.By studying the prepositions of place and the tour to London, we cultivate the students awareness of foreign culture; arouse students interests in daily English learning and cultivate students spirit of helpfulness.2. Teaching ProcedureStep 1: Revision Show a map of the center part of Beijing, and ask students to make a dialogue of asking and giving directions. My purpose is to revise what we have leant in the last unit. By making a dialogue, students interest in speaking will be aroused and naturally they will use the expression of asking and giving directions in Unit one. Step 2: warming up and lead-in Show the students some pictures of the famous places in London which appear in our passage, then ask the students if they know what places they are and which place they want to visit. Then give some background information about these places. My purpose is to form a cultural surrounding for the students and lead them to experience the beautiful view abroad. By looking at the pictures, students interests will be aroused and they may guess the topic today. Step 3: While-readingTask 1: The teacher asks students to read the passage quickly and find out the famous places in this passage in the order they appear. My purpose: By doing this, the students will have a first glance of the whole passage and the route of the tour. Besides, they can get familiar with these famous places. Task 2: Students work in groups of four, read the passage again and follow it on the map. My purpose: To connect the map with the reading material. It is a good way to train students ability of reading maps, help them to grasp a basic knowledge of the famous places in London and to understand the expressions of giving directions.
