Delegate:#,#School:#Country:ThePortugueseRepublicCommittee:ParisPeaceConferenceTopic:TreatyofPeacebetweentheAlliedandAssociatedPowersandGermanyIntheaftermathoftheGreatWar,anewroundofreconstructionoftheinternationalpatternsbegantohappen.Afterthefour-yearwar,peopleallovertheworldhavestrongdesirestoseethearrivalofadurablepeace.Therefore,inordertosetthepeacetermsforthepost-warworld,thealliedvictorsincludedPortugaldecidedtoholdtheParisPeaceConferencetodiscussvariousoptionsanddevelopaseriesoftreaties.Portugalgovernmentbelievesthatlong-termpeacefulsystemisundoubtedlywhatthecurrentworldneedsmostandthatmaintainingpeaceandorderoftheworldarethemostpressing.Meanwhile,governmenthighlyconcernsthepost-warGermanyproblemandthinksthathandlingitmustbecautiousandappropriate.Theinternationalcommunityhasheldlargeandsmallconferencesandputforwardquiteafewtreatiestoseekforthesolutiontothepost-warproblem.Earlyin1644,delegatesfromseveralcountriesattendedtheWestphaliaPeaceConferenceduringtheThirtyyearsin164W8arandtheysignedthePeaceofWestphaliawhichisrecognizedasamilestoneinthehistoryofnation-state.In1814,CongressofViennawasheldtoredrawtheEuropeanpoliticalmapafterNapoleonsdefeatandtheFinalActwasadoptedtocreatethepoliticalandmilitarybalanceinEurope.In1856,belligerentsoftheCrimeanWarheldthepeaceconferenceinParisandsignedtheTreatyofParistoendthewar.Portugalgovernmentalwayspaysmuchattentiontopost-warproblemandhaslongbeenworkingonreadjustinginternationalpatternswithoutdamagingitsowninterest.SoPortugalattendedgreatinternationalconferencemanytimesandparticipatedinthesigningofsomeimportanttreaties.Forinstance,PortugaloncesignedtheTreatyofParisin1814,whichendedthewarandestablishedpeacebetweenFranceandtheSixthCoalition.PortugalaffirmstheintentionofcooperatingwithotherEntenteCountriestoestablishapeacefulnewworldorderandconsolidatethefoundationofbalanceofpowerinEurope.Second,onthepost-warGermanyproblem,PortugalinsiststhatthecolonieswhichwereoccupiedbyGermanylikeGermanSouthWestAfricaandEastAfricashouldbedistributedtoPortugalinreturnforenteringthewar.Moreover,PortugaldemandstradingprivilegesandloweringoftariffbarrierfromGermangovernment,whichwillfacilitatethedevelopmentofeconomictradeamongnations.Tosumup,PortugalfirmlymaintainsitsselfinterestandhopesprofoundlythatParisPeaceConferencecanbecarriedonunderfairandjustcircumstances.
