The design of advertising English has become an art and advertising English is a special literary form because of its special functions which have the outstanding characteristics, namely, the attractive and persuasive language. This paper firstly gives an introduction to the English advertisement. And then, based on some vivid examples in English advertisements, it supplies a detailed discussion of language features of advertising English from two aspects. The first aspect is about some lexical features of advertising English, including coinage, misspelling, borrowed words, and abbreviation and so on. The other one is about some principal sentence structures used in English advertisements, that is: simple sentence, elliptical sentence, active sentence, and interrogative sentence. By using these typical language features, the advertising language is colorful and has a powerful strength of persuasion. This paper attempts to concentrate on the analysis of its lexical and syntactic features in order to help designers to create more effective advertisements.
