Analysis on Pride and PrejudiceSubject: Selected Readings Name: 郑巧 Class:131805 Num:18OutlinePart Brief introduction about Jane AustenPart Analysis on pride and prejudice themesplots characterslanguagePart ConclusionJane Austen, one of Englands foremost novelists, was born on December 16, 1775 in Hampshire, England. She was the daughter of a country clergy man, and passed all her life in doing small domestics in the countryside. Jane has not entered regular school but studied at home guided by her parents. The education she received was mostly reading classical literature and popular fiction. Jane Austens novels are mainly concerned about the womens marriage and family life around her small world with a sense of humor. Pride and prejudice, first published in 1813, has consistently been Jane Austens most popular novel. It portrays life in the genteel rural society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual enlightenment between Elizabeth Bennet and the haughty Darcy. The main themes of pride and prejudice are love, reputation and class, courtship and pride. Love and marriage Elizabeths pride makes her misjudge Darcy on the basis of a poor first impression, while Darcys prejudice against Elizabeths poor social standing blinds him, for a time, to her many virtues. Darcy and Elizabeth, their realization imply that Austen views love is a force separate from society and one that can conquer even the most difficult of circumstances. Class and reputationThe theme reflects the strictly regimented nature of life foe the middle and upper classes in Regency England. Courtship and pride.I also understand that it related to moral belief and behavior. We can know that how the values of Napoleonic English society shaped their society. It is the story of a young girl who rejects an offer of marriage because the young nobleman who makes it has been rude to her family. It is a very thin plot, but around it the authoress has woven vivid pictures of the everyday life of simple country society. Initial Situation: the Bennet family, five single daughters with no money. And then a young, rich, single man moves into the neighborhood. Conflict: Bingley starts falling for Jane, but his sisters and friends dont approve. Complication: Bingleys sisters and Darcy succeed in dissuading Bingley from marrying Jane; Darcy sinks lower and lowers in Elizabeths estimation. Climax: Mr. Darcy shows his heart; Elizabeth learns her errors in judgment Conclusion: The happily ever after - Mr. Bingley proposes to Jane; Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth. This novel constructs many vivid figures for us, the Bennet, Mr. Darcy, Bingley, Wickham, Collins, Lydia etc. Some of these characters strike me as follows. Elizabeth Bennet is the main character and protagonist. She is intelligent, lively logical, attractive and witty, but with a tendency to judge on first impressions and perhaps to be a litter selective of the evidence upon which she bases her judgments. Mr. Darcy is the main male character. He is wealth, handsome, tall and intelligent, but not convivial. His aloof decorum and moral rectitude are seen by many as an excessive pride and concern for social status. He makes a poor impression on strangers. Fortunately Elizabeth and he fail in love with each other. Mrs. Bennet is a woman of litter sense and knowledge who is frivolous, excitable, and narrow-minded and I dont think she is fair to her daughters. In comparison, Mr. Bennet is a bookish and intelligent gentleman somewhat withdrawn from society. He shows Jane and Elizabeth much more love and respect. Jane is a beautiful and never sees evil in anyone. Quite tolerant and controlled as she is, Jane bears sorrows and pains to herself peacefully. Bingley, a handsome, good-natured, fashionable and wealthy bachelor. He is contrasted with his friend Darcy as being less clever but kinder and more charming and hence more popular. But he and Jane dont get tighter right away because of a misunderstanding. As a represent writer of the Literatery Features and Works of Critical Realism, Jane Austen exhausted her wit and talent in her book, describing subjects her most familiar with. The ironic humorous style becomes a unique feature of her work. Pride and prejudice, like most of Janes works, employs the narrative technique of three indirect speeches the free representation of a characters speech, by which one means, not words actually spoken by a characters thoughts or the way the character would think or speak, if she thought or spoke./From this book we can feel that Jane Austen has a talent for describing the involvements and feelings and characters of ordinary life which is to us the most wonderful we ever met with. . located in the Tomb, Dong Shen Jia bang, defer the next day focused on the assassination.
