新余市2014高考英语阅读理解、完形填空专题训练(1)附答案阅读理解(每题2分,满分8分)选材相似度:设题相似度:难度系数:When I was 17,I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it were your last, someday youll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me,and since then, for the past 33 years,I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself,“If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?”Remembering that Ill be dead soon is the most important tool Ive ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life.About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that was incurable, and that I would live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctors code for preparing yourself to die.I lived with that diagnosis all day.I was completely in despair.Later that evening I had another biopsy and my wife told me that tumor turned out to be curable with surgery.I had the surgery and Im fine now. This was the closest Ive been to facing death. To tell the truth,no one wants to die.And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.It clears out the old to make room for the new.Right now the new is you,but someday not too long from now,you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.Your time is so limited that you shouldnt waste it repeating someone elses life.Dont be trapped by dogmawhich is living with the results of other peoples thinking.Dont let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart. It somehow already knows what you truly want to become.Everything else is secondary.Notes:biopsy n活组织检查tumor n肿瘤【语篇解读】 这是苹果公司CEO乔布斯在斯坦福大学毕业典礼上演讲的节选部分。在这部分内容中,他诚恳地表达了自己对死亡的看法。1The doctor advised the author to go home and get his affairs in order because _.Ahe had to rest at homeBhis disease couldnt be curedChis disease was not serious at allDhe had to wait for the result of the test答案B细节理解题。由第三段的“incurable”以及“which is doctors code for preparing yourself to die”可知,医生认为作者的病无法治愈。2How did the author feel after the diagnosis?ACalm. Within hours of arriving in Angola, television screens around the world were filled with images of her comforting victims injured in explosions caused by landmines. “I knew the statistics,” she said. “But putting a face to those figures brought the reality home to me; like when I met Sandra, a 13- year-old girl who had lost her leg, and people like her.” The Princess concluded with a simple message: “We must stop landmines”. And she used every opportunity during her visit to repeat this message. But, back in London, her views were not shared by some members of the British government, which refused to support a ban on these weapons. Angry politicians launched an attack on the Princess in the press. They described her as “very ill-informed” and a “loose cannon”. (乱放炮的人) The Princess responded by brushing aside the criticisms: “This is a distraction (干扰) we do not need. All Im trying to do is help.”Opposition parties, the media and the public immediately voiced their support for the Princess. To make matters worse for the government, it soon emerged that the Princesss trip had been approved by the Foreign Office, and that she was in fact very well-informed about both the situation in Angola and the British governments policy regarding landmines. The result was a severe embarrassment for the government. To try and limit the damage, the Foreign Secretary, Malcolm Rifkidnd, claimed that the Princesss views on landmines were not very different from government policy, and that it was “working towards a worldwide ban. The Defence Secretary, Michael Portillo, claimed the matter was “a misinterpretation or misunderstanding.” For the Princess, the trip to this war-torn country was an excellent opportunity to use her popularity to show the world how much destruction and suffering landmines
