A Thesis of Translation Translation Errors Analysis of English MajorsAbstractIn order to help students with their translation and assist teachers to find main problems of students in their translation, this article studies an English to Chinese translation exercise of the second year English majors of the school of foreign language in Wuhan Institute of Technology by collecting and sorting out the typical errors made by students and analyzing the causes of the errors guided by error analysis theory. The research adopts the basic translation criteria of TEM8 in dealing with students translations. According to the research, students have made quite a few errors, mainly in choosing denotation or connotation of words, producing idiomatic Chinese expressions, translating proper nouns and misinterpretation of sentences. This thesis attempts to find out the reasons why they made all these errors and put forward some suggestions for improving quality of translation teaching and the idea of enabling students enjoy the process of translation.Key words: translation; errors analysis; translation teaching; suggestions摘 要为了指导学生认识自己翻译不足,帮助翻译教师发现主要问题,从而提高英语本科翻译教学质量,本文以武汉工程大学外语学院英语专业二年级学生为对象,以错误分析理论为基础,在基本翻译原则和英语专业八级翻译要求的指导下,对学生的一次英译汉翻译练习进行分析,收集其中典型的翻译错误、分析错误原因。研究发现学生的翻译中存在许多错误,主要表现在词的本义和引申义选择、措辞不符合汉语表达习惯、专有名词翻译以及对复杂句的理解四个方面。通过分析错误产生原因,本文试图不仅帮助学生从中汲取教训也同时为翻译教学提供一些改进措施,让学生们不再害怕翻译,而是享受翻译的过程,提高翻译质量。关键词: 翻译;错误分析;翻译教学;建议Table of ContentsAbstract in English.i Abstract in Chinese.ii1. IntroductionA new and dynamic era for translation has emerged since China adopted its “reform and opening to the outside world” policy. Moreover, China has embraced world since WTO entry. The exchange between China and other countries has been keeping increasing and expanding, touching such diverse fields as economics, commerce, science and technology, etc. With economic boom, the qualified translators and interpreters are needed in increasing numbers by all sorts of institution. As a result, the education of translators faces a great challenge both in quality and in quantity. On the other hand, the studies on translation errors of college English majors are few, especially on the basis of statistics of error analysis. It can be proved by the results searched by the author of the thesis on China Academic Journal Electronic Publishing House on line. With translation error analysis as key words, only 11 articles can be found. The relevant articles are on Translation Problems of juniors among English Majors and How Juniors among English Majors Improve E-C translation Competence written by Yang Shizhuo. Only one masters thesis named On Translation Teaching of Undergraduates- an Error Analysis of C-E Translation is a study on students translation errors based on statistics. Actually translation teachers are often confronted with large numbers of errors in the students translations, especially at the beginning.
