SXSW: Jake Gyllenhaal on Source Code world premiere Mar 12 2011Festival kicked off in Austin, TX with the world premiere of sci-fi mind-bender Source Code. Austin crowds come to love and the Summit film starring Jake Gyllenhaalwho caused quite a stir with the hordes of fans, one of whom got a little camera-happy in the mens room (dude, gross)enjoyed a warm reception. Directed by Moons Duncan Jones, the film follows Gyllenhaals Captain Colter Stevens, a soldier who wakes up from his tour of duty in the body of a strange man on a doomed train. Colter soon discovers that hes part of a mission to ferret out the identity of a bomber and so, in delightfully taut eight-minute blocks aboard a commuter train bound for Chicago, he races to thwart a terrorist plot. EW spoke to Gyllenhaal on the morning after Source Codes premiere.EW: There are rumors that there was a rather heated scuffle in the theater bathroom last night as a fan tried to take your picture at an inelegant time?JG: (laughs) Thats true. I think its an appropriate space to keep privacy. I hope that people wouldnt disagree with me on that.EW: Last night on stage, Duncan Jones said it was you who brought him on board Source Code. Were you a fan of Moon (the directors beloved 2008 meditative sci fi film)?JG: Id seen Moon and I thought this guy must have a fantastic mind. And Id been told there was a project that he wants to make that he was interested in me playing one of the roles for. So I said of course I want to meet him. At the meeting I told him Oh theres this other script that I would really love for you to read. I never thought that he would want to do Source Code because he tends to write and direct his own things. But we sent it to him on a roll of the dice and five days later he was like “I want to do the movie.”EW: Why was Duncan the right fit?JG: What always scares me is people tend to lose character and a sense of “Why?” on a behavioral, human, psychological level when theyre dealing with something that can be entertaining. When you deal with something that is potentially commercial people just say “Oh, well get to that later.” The movie was not anything I wanted to make unless it was with someone who was a real visionary. And humor too. Duncan has a great sense of humordirty and dark and great. I think the great thing about sci fi is theres a little bit of a campy quality always. I dont think anybody should take themselves too seriously in time continuum.EW: Did you stay to watch the movie?JG: I did. My best friend lives in Austin and he came with his girlfriend. Literally he grabbed my leg at one point and then at another time, in that scene where I jump off the train, he was like “Oh my god, what the hell?!” I was like “Yes!”Source Code opens on April 1.Box office update: Battle: Los Angeles blasts off to No. 1 with $13.5 mil on FridayIt was a good and bad day for Hollywood aliens. On the one hand, the alien-invasion action film Battle: Los Angeles debuted at the top of Fridays box office with a more-than-expected $13.5 million, according to early estimates. That puts Sonys PG-13 flick, which cost a reported $70 million to produce and received mostly negative reviews, on track for a $37 million weekend. At the other end of the galaxy, though, was Disneys Mars Needs Moms. The $150 million 3-D animated film, about a young boy whose mother gets kidnapped by Martians, barely levitated with $1.7 million on Friday. Even with its 3-D surcharges and premium pricing at 211 IMAX theaters, the PG-rated movie is headed for a weekend debut of only $7 million. As evidenced by Rango, the Nevada desert may be more alluring than Mars. Paramounts $135 million animated Western, starring the chameleonic thespian Johnny Depp as a thespian chameleon, dropped a modest 43 percent for $5.5 million. The PG movie should finish the weekend in second place with about $23 million. In third was the new Twilight-wannabe thriller Red Riding Hood, which performed slightly below industry expectations. The PG-13 film, a revisionist take on the classic fairy tale, swallowed $5 million on Friday and should emerge from the weekend with $14 million. Fourth place went to the sci-fi thriller holdover The Adjustment Bureau, which fell 49 percent for $3.4 million. Check back here on Sunday for the complete box office report.华盛顿日报march 13,2011Washington police detectives have obtained arrest warrants for three suspects involved in a coordinated conspiracy to commit a larceny which occurred at Walmart on Jan. 28, according to the Washington Police Department.Warrants were issued for Miosha Kenyetta Troy, 26 of Wilmington; Tanesha Janay Richardson, 22, of Wilmington; and Charlicia Renee Powell, 26, of Wilmington.
