Controller Design of Intelligent Lighting NetworkRON G Xue2juan , NIU Ping2juan , XU Xiu2zhi( School of Information and Communication Engineering , Tianjin Polytechnic University , Tianjin 300160 , CHN)Abstract : Studied are the cont roller design and basic principles of intelligent lighting network. TIsMSP430F123 is used as a main cont roller. By using the ZigBee modules (Xbee/ Xbee-PRO) and the GSMmodule (SIM300C) for wireless communications , the lighting control is enabled to access wireless network.This system uses a mobile phone to achieve light on-off directly , which can accomplish wireless control ofintelligent lighting in families.Key words : intelligent lighting control ; Zigbee module ; GSM module ; lighting network controllerCLC number : TN431 Document code : A Article ID : 1007 - 0206 (2009) 03 - 0179 - 051 IntroductionIn recent years , t he digital home , wireless communications , wireless control , wireless location ,wireless network and mobile connections have run into our life. Because of the rapid development of IT industry , the popularity of networks , intelligent home appliances and the powerful functions of a singlechip microcomputer , we can enjoy these great changes. Increasing coverage of t he relevant information is sufficient to ensure these new things to have a strong vitality and great prospects.So far , the intelligent lighting does not have a specific definition. Usually it refers to t he technology that uses advanced computer , network communication , or integrated wiring technology. It can be combined with life and home lighting systems , making simply life more comfortable , warmer , and more protective to environment . Simple understanding of the intelligent lighting is to make t he lighting informative and intelligent . Intelligent lighting simply includes two aspects : remote control of household electricity supply and lighting indoor scenes. Therefore , intelligent lighting control system will be the focus of t he future research.2 Excellence of Intell igent LightingThe effect s of intelligent lighting cont rol system are as follows :(1) The achievement of the humanized lighting. Due to t he different lighting quality requirements in different areas , we need to adjust the cont rol of illumination in order to achieve t he control program such as t he scene control , timing control , multi2point control and so on. The program is flexible in mend and change is propitious to ensure t he quality of lighting1 .(2) Raising t he level of management . To ensure t he quality of lighting , it is necessary to use high quality management system and to transform the traditional lighting switch which control s the on off into the intelligent management .(3) Energy conservation. The smart sensor is used to adjust t he bright ness of outdoor lightingautomatically , which maintains a constant indoor illumination. It will not only bring the best lighting indoor environment , but al so realize t he energy saving effect . According to t he work of t he regions ,illumination settings is operated and the system automatically on or off on time , enabling the system to conserve energy effectively2 .(4) Extending t he service life of lamp s. As we all know , t he life of lighting depends on t he grid voltage. As a result of t he higher grid over-voltage , t he life of lamp s will be reduced greatly , while on the ot her case t hat will be multiplied. Therefore , preventing over2voltage and reducing t he operating voltage is an effective way to extend t he life of lamps3 .(5) Protective environment . The use of intelligent lighting cont rol can reduce the human body injury caused by lighting.3 System ComponentsWireless intelligent lighting cont rol system includes a SIM300C module , a XBEE module and a number of general2p urpose port s. As shown in Fig11. The indoor wireless network uses Zigbee network and the outdoor wireless network uses GSM network. The indoor cont rol module uses Tips MSP430F123 processor , which has the advantages of low power consumption , fast inst ruction execution time , etc. MSP430F123 single2chip microcomp uter which uses t he two serial port s (one of which is simulative) is linked up to SIM300C module and XBEE modules. It set s J TA G debugging port , RS232 port . RS232 port is optional , which is set up to facilitate debugging. We can see t he sit uation of the communication data in the port UART through t he serial debugging. XBEE module sends light cont rol directives by t he use of Zigbee agreement .4 Hardware Circuit4. 1 Single2chip MicrocomputerMSP430F123 external circuit is shown in Fig. 2 , which mainly has t he following characteristics : (1) Very low supply voltage. The minimum can be 1. 8 V and t he scope of it s power supply is1. 8 V3. 6 V.( 2 ) Ultra-low power consumption. When it works under t he condition of hibernation , thecurrent is only 0. 8A. Even when
