Brief introduction to the text: Five myths of studying in America is designed to show readers that there are many stereotypes held by people of different cultures about each other. In this passage, the author lists five myths held by some people about American students or American Education in general. After reading this passage, you may realize that the misconceptions held by others about you are no truer than those you might hold about them. Questions: what do you think might be some of the stereotypes held by other nations regarding Chinese students and education? 2. Structure Introduction:Starting with examples of misconceptions held by American students towards people in other nations; examples to misconceptions regarding US; the importance of breaking stereotypes and painting a realistic picture of life in the US. Conclusion Just as Americans hold outrageous perceptions of the outside world, you too may need to check your assumptions about the US. It is advisable for people to “research before reacting”. 3. Brief introduction to the text: This passage provides some good advice for anyone thinking about studying in a foreign country. Though this article is written with students in mind, in a broad sense, it contains good advice for anyone who might be going to live in a foreign country for any reason. 2.
