历史性的握手历史性的握手 1;. 1972 Nixon visit to China U.S. President Richard Nixons 1972 visit to the Peoples Republic of China was an important step in formally normalizing relations between the United States and the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). It marked the first time a U.S. president had visited the PRC, which at that time considered the U.S. and the visit ended 25 years of separation between the two sides. 2;.3;.4;. Zhou Enlai (5 March 1898 8 January 1976) was the first Premier of the Peoples Republic of China, serving from October 1949 until his death in January 1976. Zhou served under Mao Zedong and was instrumental in consolidating the control of the Communist Partys rise to power, 5;.A Diplomatic life Zhou was a diplomat, although he held the post of Premier from the start of the Communist government in October 1949 until his death in Beijing in January 1976. There were other people who held the post of Foreign Minister, but Zhou was always the chief negotiator at all crucial times. Mao Zedong knew that he needed a subtle diplomat to be able to meet with foreigners - a skill which he did not have. Zhou had spent 1920 to 1924 in France and had visited England. In Europe, he had participated in heated discussions among Europeans on the importance and the role of the 1917 Russian Revolution. 6;. Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 April 22, 1994) was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974, when he became the only president to resign the office. Nixon had previously served as a Republican U.S. Representative and Senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. 7;. The repercussions of the Nixon visit were vast, and included a significant shift in the Cold War balance, pitting the PRC with the U.S. against the Soviet Union. Nixon going to China has since become a metaphor for an unexpected or uncharacteristic action by a politician. 8;. Thank you9;.
