Language Objective Students will be able to use the adjectives to describe characters of people and sum up more and more adjectives to describe a person. 2. Ability Objective Students will develop reading skills (skimming for the main idea of the text and scanning for specific information, summarizing information and making inferences.) 3. Moral Objectives Students will get prepared for the descriptions of a teacher, and the relationship between teachers and students in China and other foreign countries. II. Important Points 1. Train the Ss reading ability. 2. Get the Ss to grasp the general idea of the passage. III. Difficult Point Improve the Ss reading ability. IV. Teaching Methods 1. Individual and pair work to get every student to take part in the activities. 2. Fast reading and intensive reading so as to get the students to understand the text correctly. 3. Discussion. 4. Teaching aid: Multi-media. V. Teaching Procedures Step I Greetings (1min) Greet the whole class as usual. Step II Warming up (4mins) Warming up by discussing Hello boys and girls, today we are going to learn a lesson My New Teachers, and now I want you to discuss a question: Are first impressions important Some agrees that first impressions are important, some doesnt, anyway, I do believe that first impressions are important, because first impressions can depend on whether will make friends with the person. Can first impressions be changed? Of course, they can. We know first impressions are often misleading. But in the long run, wrong first impressions will be corrected. From these questions, we can know that the first impression is very important, so try to behave politely when you meet someone for the first time. Step III Pre Reading (5mins) Before reading, answer the following questions and share the answer with your partner. 1. Who was your favorite teacher in Junior High School? 2. What adjectives will you use to describe your favorite teacher in Junior High School? 3. What adjectives will you use to describe the teacher you dont like in Junior High School? Step IV Lead in (3min) Show them four pictures of different teachers. Since we know some of your teachers, and now could you tell me how many teachers in the passage? And what are your first impressions of them? Step V Fast reading (7mins) Now read the text fast and check your prediction about the impressions, figure out the following questions. Mrs. Li: nervous, shy, kind, patient Mrs. Chen: strict, serious Mr. Wu: energetic, good-looking, amusing Questions: 1) Who is the most popular teacher? Mr. Wu 2) Who is the kindest teacher? Mrs. Li 3) Which teacher are students most afraid of? Mrs. Chen Step VI Careful reading (16mins) This time, read the text carefully and fill in the form and try to get the general idea of each paragraph. Paragraph II Mrs. Chen is too strict, but because her teaching is very organized and clear, some students do like her. Paragraph III Mr. Wu is amusing, energetic and he enjoys teaching, so he is very popular. Step VII Discussion after reading (6mins) 1) Of the three teachers which one does you like best? Why? 2) Would you like Mrs. Chen to be your physics teacher? Why or why not? 3) Would you like Mr. Wu to be your Chinese teacher? Why or why not? Step VIII Summary and homework (3mins) After our reading, do you know what the passage talk about? Who can give a summary about this passage? Homework: 1. Describe one of your new teachers. (name, appearance/character, teaching style, your goal in the new term) 2. Try to complete the Exercise 2 and 3 on Page13. VI.
