Unlike RSLinx Enterprise software, it provides a download path for the various RSLogix software packages to the matching controller.Understanding RSLinx SoftwareThe information being served to FactoryTalk View SE Servers or FactoryTalk View SE Clients is local. The RSLinx data server is installed on the same computer as the FactoryTalk View Se Server.Use RSLinx Classic when:You do not need to install an activation key to make RSLinx Classic work, provided you run RSLinx Classic on the same computer as the FactoryTalk View SE Server.Understanding RSLinx SoftwareIf the information is being served to third-party OPC client, for example, a FactoryTalk View SE Client. If the RSLinx data server is installed on a computer separate from the FactoryTalk View SE Server. You might do this for performance reasons, or to locate the OPC server physically close to the process generating data. You must use an RSLinx activation key for RSLinx Gateway:Configuring Communications Using an RSLinx Classic OPC Data ServerUnlike RSLinx Enterprise, which lists drivers according to communications protocol (DeviceNet, DF1, etc.), RSLinx Classic drivers are listed according to the driver hardware installed on your computer.RSLinx Classic software also includes additional drivers that are not currently available in RSLinx Enterprise software.Configuring Communications Using an RSLinx Classic OPC Data ServerOnce the necessary drivers have been configured, the RSWho window can be used to view configured drivers:Autobrowse FeatureConfigured NetworksSelected BackplaneBackplane ModulesCreating an OPC TopicCreate an OPC topic for the application:OPC Topic ListAssociated ControllerCreating an OPC TopicOPC Topic ListAssociated ControllerThe following components aid in OPC topic creation:RSLinx Classic topics typically point to an online processor or controller.
